Art 8 (Introduction to Visual Thinking)

Art 8 is a lower division foundation course taught at UC Berkeley’s Art Department.
This class invites students to devote themselves to curiosity, to think outside of the box, and to invest in projects that integrate art to their day-to-day lives. Throughout the course, students explore different themes that are associated with specific projects. The class consists of lectures, workshops, fieldtrips and valuable artist talks to add to the educative component of students’ artistic experience. The parameters are set for a range of skill levels, from beginners to those who have more experience.

There are 3 major themes designed by Professor McNamara (founder of the course):

1. Aspects of Self & Others
2. Appropriation, Re-Contextualization, Integration
3. Perception, Phenomenon, Entropy, Spirituality

The summer section was taught by Azin Seraj.
